The Mary Jane Voelker Internship Program was established in 2020 in order to promote interest in the history of Pueblo and Southern Colorado. The program teaches students how to research and write short form, non-fiction articles for the Society's monthly magazine The Pueblo Lore.

The Mary Jane Voelker Intern Program offers college students hands-on experience in historical research and writing, along with the opportunity to earn a $1,000 completion stipend. Interns work closely with the The Pueblo Lore editor and Intern Coordinator to develop publishable historical articles for the society’s monthly magazine.
Participants must be enrolled in a college internship course for credit, submit a writing sample, and commit to weekly work sessions during the semester. Responsibilities include attending and writing about our monthly dinner programs, volunteering in our research library and photo department, conducting research on a chosen topic, maintaining time sheets tracking volunteer hours, and the completion of a final original article for potential publication in The Pueblo Lore.Interns also receive a one-year PCHS membership, monthly dinner program access (with one guest), a free copy of On Writing Well by William Zinsser, and professional editing support for their writing. Successful completion of all program requirements is required to receive the $1,000 award.
